History
During the late 90’s and early 00’s, Mathers continued to grow, and they opened a second location in Matthews, NC. In just a few short years Mathers had grown to more than 130 sales agents and was among the top 10 real estate companies in the greater Charlotte region.
Like many real estate firms across the nation, the 2008 recession had an impact on real estate and Mathers was no exception. The company made the difficult decision to move to a single office in Matthews, NC. However, Mathers continued to be successful during this period due to several factors. First, Mathers provided extensive training for agents over the years which allowed their agents to have an upper hand at navigating a difficult economy and housing market. Secondly, Mathers made connections and gained contracts from Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, HUD, and the VA along with numerous banks. This allowed Mathers the opportunity to handle the normal real estate market along with foreclosure sales. This helped Mathers continue to grow as an organization and remain successful.
That success and growth has continued to impact the company and in 2014 Mathers moved their corporate headquarters to 4335 Matthews-Mint Hill Road. Since that time the company has doubled the number of sales agents and has broken numerous record sales reports. With the continuous growth Mathers decide to expand again and in 2017 they opened a second office in South Charlotte. Things didn’t slow down here and the company opened a third office in 2019 located in Stanly County in the town of Oakboro, NC.
In 2023 Mathers celebrated their 40th anniversary in business and the company continues to grow and prosper. Bill Mathers made the decision to start the second phase of his live and sell the business. In August of 2024 John Robinson became the new owner of Mathers Realty. John has 8 years of real estate experience with Mathers and plans to continue to grow the company across North and South Carolina. Mathers currently has over 90 agents with expertise across the Carolinas. They have an excellent training model that has been sold to other large firms and continues to help their agents stay abreast of the latest technology, services and changes to an ever-growing industry.
Mathers Realty was founded in October or 1983 when Bill Mathers purchased an ERA Real Estate Franchise, known as ERA Mathers. ERA Mathers quickly grew to become one of the top 15 ERA franchises nationwide and number one in the Carolinas, as well as one of the leading real estate firms in the Charlotte area. Training immediately became a linchpin in the growth of ERA Mathers and in 1986 they stated a new training program known as the Purple Monkey program. This program continued to grow the company and their agents became so successful it was purchased by ERA who continues to use its components today.
In 1998, after 15 years with ERA, Mathers made the decision to branch out on its own and became an independent broker currently known as Mathers Realty. They opened an office on Carmel Road in the South Charlotte area. This move allowed for a more personalized business plan and a competitive commission structure for the benefit of the sales agents.
